United Kingdom,Human Interest/Society,Lifestyle/Fashion, Sat, 28 Apr 2012 IANS

London, April 28 (IANS) Only a third of married couples in Britain do something special to celebrate their wedding anniversary, a study has found.

A quarter do remember the day but do not give presents or do anything special. One fifth do not even mark it, said a poll for American Express Platinum Cashback Credit Card.

The survey found that Britons were "too financially squeezed" to celebrate. A quarter of married couples were still paying for their wedding after three years, according to the Daily Express.

However, one in 10 people said it was one day they treated themselves and their partner, spending an average 72 pounds (around $120).

Another study by Opinium Research found that 5.5 million Britons never remember the date. Men were twice as likely to forget as women.
