Itanagar, Apr 28 (ANI): Former Army chief and Arunachal Pradesh Governor J.J. Singh has been conferred with the Mahatma Gandhi Seva Award (MGSA) in recognition of his yeoman service to the people of the state.
"Every Indian should be proud to be the inheritor of the philosophy of truth and non-violence of Mahatma Gandhi, who is respected with reverence globally as an apostle of peace," said Governor Singh after Gandhi Global Family (GGF) conferred on him Mahatma Gandhi Seva Award (MGSA) at a function at the Raj Bhawan here on Friday evening.
"Arunachal symbolizes nationalism seen even in remote border villages with the pictures of patriots like Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose and Jawaharlal Nehru and heard in local songs. We should unitedly spread Gandhi's message and resolve all problems with consensus to march towards peace and progress," he added.
The Governor also lauded the Gandhi Global Family for it selfless service to the humanity..
The Vice President of Gandhi Global Family, S. P. Varma, informed that Governor Singh was given the highest Gandhi award in recognition of his yeoman service to the civilians, particularly when the Army under his guidance rehabilitated few border villages devastated by massive earthquake in Jammu and Kashmir.
The honour includes a citation, a medal, an autobiography of Gandhi and a shawl.
"You are a household name in Jammu, where people take your name with love and respect," Arunachal Front quoted Varma, as saying.
Highlighting various activities of the GGF, a global NGO with branches in 30 countries, Varma disclosed that Gandhian Parikrama to preach and spread the values of Gandhian philosophy covering 1 lakh km, conferring the MGSA to the deserving persona, holding symposium on 'Truth and non-violence' sponsored by MHRD (Itanagar is the 3rd in series) which would be conducted across the world, among others.
He sought the Governor's help in organizing the symposium in various schools, whose winners would take part in a national level event that offers huge cash award to be given by the President of India. (ANI)
