Both Congress and Trinamool are sinking ships: CPI-M

West Bengal,Politics, Fri, 27 Apr 2012 IANS

Kolkata, April 27 (IANS) The CPI-M Friday took a dig at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh assuring Trinamool Congress (TMC) members of parliament over the financial crisis in West Bengal, saying only time will tell "who bails out whom" as both parties were having a tough time due to their "anti-people" policies.

"We have heard that the prime minister has assured Trinamool MPs over the issue of financial debt of the state. We would be happy if the central government helps the state. But the fact is that only time will tell who bails out whom," CPI-M politburo member and state opposition leader Surya Kant Mishra said here.

The TMC is a key ally of the ruling Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) at the Centre.

The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader said both Trinamool and Congress were "sinking ships due to anti-people policies" at the state level as well as the centre.

"The policies that the state government is following remind us of the draconian days of emergency rule.... the democratic rights that we had given to the people are being taken away. The government is taking up undemocratic steps," he alleged.

The Left Front legislative party Friday released a book christened 'Jabab Mele Ni' (Have not received the answers yet) - which states the letters it sent to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee but are yet to be answered.

Mishra also refused to evaluate the performance of the state government. "We don't want to evaluate the state government. But the problem is that the state government itself is engaged in self-evaluation. The chief minister continuously is giving marks to the performance of the state government," he said.
