Sydney, Apr 27(ANI): Kentucky Fried Chicken has been ordered to pay eight million dollars in damages to the family of a young Sydney girl, who suffered brain damage after she consumed a Twister chicken wrap.
Monika Samaan's family had sued the fast food giant, claiming that a Twister was the source of her salmonella poisoning.
Monika was left severely brain damaged and is effectively a quadriplegic.
Her father told the New South Wales Supreme Court that he had purchased the wrap at the KFC outlet at Villawood, in Sydney on October 24, 2005.
KFC, however, has indicated that it will appeal against the verdict.
The family's lawyer, George Vlahakis, said his clients are very relieved that the battle was over, but very distressed by the appeal's announcement.
"Monika's severe brain damage and severe disability has already exhausted the very limited resources of the family. Monika is now a big girl and they are finding it increasingly difficult to lift her and to look after her basic needs as well as look after Monika's younger siblings," The Herald Sun quoted Vlahakis, as saying.
"The compensation ordered is very much needed. KFC have to date been determined that Monika does not receive a cent," he added. (ANI)
