Kandahar (Afghanistan), April 26 (Xinhua-ANI): Eight Taliban militants were killed during an operation in southern Afghan province of Kandahar, provincial police chief said on Thursday.
"Based on intelligence, a special unit of Afghan Border Police raided a Taliban hideout in Hadah area of Spin Boldak district Wednesday night killing eight militants," General Abdul Raziq told Xinhua.
They also found and seized a handful of weapons and explosive materials besides seizing six motorcycles used by militants, the police chief added.
Taliban militants have yet to make comments.
Kandahar, the birthplace of Taliban, has seen increasing militancy despite continued military operations there.
Afghan forces and some 130,000 NATO-led coalition troops have intensified cleanup operations against Taliban and other militant groups throughout the country recently as spring and summer known as "fighting season" draw near. (Xinhua-ANI)
