Jakarta, April 21 (Xinhua-ANI)): An earthquake measuring 6.8 Richter scale jolted West Papua in eastern parts of Indonesia earlier Saturday, but there was no potential of tsunami, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency reported here.
The USGS reported the quake was at 6.9 magnitude with the depth at 33 km.
The quake struck at 08:16 a.m. Jakarta time (0116 GMT) with epicenter at 88 km southeast Manokwari of West Papua and with the depth at 10 km under sea bed, an official of the agency said.
"There is no potential of tsunami as the quake center is located near the beach," the official told Xinhua.
The intensity of the quake was felt at 5 MMI (modified Mercally Intensity) in Manokwari, he said.
An after shock with magnitude of 5.7 struck at 08:24 local time (0124 GMT), the official said, but the USGS reported the shock was at 6.6 magnitude. (Xinhua-ANI)
