Anand, Apr 20 (ANI): Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his opposition to the meat exports.
"It is hard to keep a track of what animal is slaughtered for meat export. It will not be appropriate if we ignore milk revolution and focus on pink revolution and increase meat export. I have seen an official document of the central government that says that there is a lot of possibility of meat export from India. It can bring a pink revolution. If such a situation arises then we will not have enough cattle for giving milk and that will be detrimental for the dairy industry," Modi told media here.
Drawing attention to the smuggling of Indian cattle to Bangladesh, Modi urged the Central Government to take steps to stop it.
"Cows from India are smuggled into Bangladesh in huge numbers. The industry of cow smuggling is huge. The efforts of ministers like Sharad Pawar are working towards strengthening the agriculture and dairy industry in India goes wasted. We have to pay serious attention to this issue and work towards curbing the smuggling," said Modi.
Meanwhil, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said the government has not altered its policy on meat exports for the last two decades.
"Basically you see whatever the export of meat policy is in this country for last 15 to 20 years, there is no new amendment made by UPA government or any concession is provided by the UPA government. Number two, about milking animals there is a ban so question doesn't arise of providing any financial support to any milking animal.
Thirdly about cow there is a total ban as per law, so I was little surprised why this type of issue has been raised," said Pawar. (ANI)
