Washington, Apr 20 (ANI): Reacting to President Barack Obama's statement of 'not being born with a silver spoon', Republican presidential candidate, Mitt Romney said that 'he would not apologize for his family's success.'
Although Obama did not mention Romney's name while making his statement, most thought it to be obviously meant for his Republican opponent.
"I'm not going to apologize for my dad's success, but I know the president likes to attack fellow Americans," the New York Times quoted Romney, as saying, as he took note that Obama's father was born poor and didn't have a college degree.
"He's always looking for a scapegoat, particularly those that have been successful like my dad, and I'm not going to rise to that," Romney retorted.
Romney revealed that he had donated all money inherited from his father's death to charity.
However, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney pointed out that Obama's remark was not a swipe at Romney.
"Those of you who've covered President Obama know he's used that language many times in the past," Carney said, adding that whoever (Romney) thought the remark referred to them was just being "a little oversensitive."
The controversy sparked off after Obama earlier made the comments while addressing the audience at a community college in Elyria, Ohio, during his campaigning, where he said, "We created a foundation for those of us to prosper. Somebody gave me an education. I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth. Michelle wasn't. But somebody gave us a chance." (ANI)
