Imran Khan against 'unilateral' withdrawal of troops from Siachen Glacier

Islamabad, Thu, 19 Apr 2012 ANI

Islamabad, Apr 19(ANI): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan has said the withdrawal of troops from the Siachen Glacier should not be unilateral.

Khan also called for the demilitarisation of the area simultaneously by both India and Pakistan after Sharif had said the war for control of the Siachen Glacier was consuming precious resources of both nations and adversely impacting the environment.

"Nawaz Sharif has a lot of resources to visit Siachen. We cannot afford to take a chartered flight to go there," The Daily Times quoted Khan, as saying on being asked if he planned to visit the area.

He, however, expressed sympathy with the victims and prayed for their safety.

He said the proposed April 20 rally in the city was a risk because of precarious security situation, adding that his party had taken the risk to express solidarity with the Baloch.

"If mainstream political parties do not go to Balochistan, it would deepen the sense of deprivation in the province," he said.

Khan said there was no guarantee of an end to drone strikes or the US apology over the November 26 airstrike. (ANI)
