Mamata should have attended Chief Ministers meet: D. Raja

New Delhi, Mon, 16 Apr 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Apr 16 (ANI): Communist Party of India (CPI) lawmaker D. Raja on Monday said West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee should have attended the annual conference of chief ministers on internal security called by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.

"She (Mamata Banerjee) should have attended the meeting. Why she avoided this meeting it is for her to explain. And how the Prime Minister is taking her absence, it is for the Prime Minister to explain," he said.

D. Raja urged the Central Government not to address the internal security as a law and order problem.

"The government shouldn't treat internal security as a law and order problem. The government should address the internal security in a holistic, comprehensive way. How to strike at the roots of the emergence of any kind of extremism in the country," he added.

Mamata Banerjee was not present in the annual conference of chief ministers on internal security. West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra was present on her behalf.

No reason was assigned for the West Bengal Chief Minister's absence. (ANI)
