Send Chisty to Pakistan, Zardari tells Manmohan

Islamabad, April 14 (IANS) Mohammad Khalil Chisty, 80, who has been granted bail by the Indian Supreme Court should be sent to Pakistan on humanitarian grounds, President Asif Ali Zardari has said in a letter to Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

India's apex court Monday granted bail to Chisty who is undergoing life imprisonment in a jail in Ajmer for involvement in a clash that resulted in the death of a person.

Zardari has appealed to Manmohan Singh to send Chisty to Pakistan, reported Geo News.

Chisty's issue was discussed during Zardari's meeting with Manmohan Singh Sunday in New Delhi.

Zardari has also directed Interior Minister Rehman Malik to make all arrangements to bring Chisty to Pakistan.

All expenditures of Chisty's return to Pakistan will be borne by the government, said an interior ministry statement.

Chisty, a virologist at the Karachi Medical College, is accused of killing a man during a brawl in April 1992 in Ajmer. He was in the city to offer prayers at the famous dargah (shrine) of Sufi saint Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti when the incident happened.

The bail to him was granted a day after Zardari arrived in India on a daylong visit that saw him meeting Manmohan Singh in New Delhi and paying obeisance at Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti's shrine in Ajmer.
