McLaren set to give Button, Hamilton SAS-style security for Bahrain GP

London, Apr 13(ANI): McLaren will give Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton SAS-style security along with their other drivers, if they participate in the highly contentious Bahrain Grand Prix.

McLaren doesn't want to take any chances before the Bahrain GP, and have offered their drivers the best protection possible, which could include bullet-proof cars for ferrying their drivers to and from the track.

Last year's race in Bahrain had to be cancelled after violent anti-government protests left at least 35 people dead, and the situation is again heating up with gangs clashing in the streets following a bomb attack on Monday.

F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone has made it clear the race will go ahead unless the organizers themselves pull the plug.

Button admits if one team were to go to Bahrain then the rest would follow suit, but is confident Ecclestone and the sport's governing body (FIA) will make the right decision.

"I trust that Bernie will make the right call, whatever that is. The problem is, and I am sure everyone will say the same thing, if one team goes, say Red Bull just as an example, every other team has to follow because it is 25 points," The Sun quoted utton, as saying.

"I know there is the issue of safety and what have you, but it is Formula One and you do it as a team. We are a circus. We go around together and we do everything together. That is the way it is and we should be doing everything together, race or not," he added.

"[In Brazil], we have a bullet proof car, pretty much all the drivers do. We have a police escort too. In Bahrain it has never been necessary," he said. (ANI)
