New Delhi, April 11 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Wednesday allowed the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) to go ahead with electing its office bearers for the 2012-16 term.
Refusing to stay the election process, a division bench of Acting Chief Justice A.K. Sikri and Justice R.S. Endlaw gave a green signal to the AFI to conduct the elections and issued notice to it.
The court's directions came on a plea filed by advocate Rahul Mehra seeking a stay on the election process scheduled for April 14-15.
The court directed the government and the AFI to submit a report within one week whether the federation followed the provisions of the government's sports code. The court would next hear the case April 25.
The bench also directed the government to cancel the recognition of the AFI if it violated the code's provisions.
The petitioner alleged that the the federation's elections violated the government guidelines.
