Kozhikode (Kerala), Apr 9 (ANI): The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has ruled out any plans of the formation of a Third Front in the country.
"On the basis of a programme-based Third Front it is not the reality in the present situation. There maybe later adjustments with regional political parties and those electoral adjustments are necessary. But we don't envisage any Third Front on the basis of a programme with the regional parties in the current scenario," S Ramachandran Pillai, CPM Politburo member, told media.
He further said that sinking popularity of the party and drastic decline in membership over the years was a major cause of concern for his party.
Asserting that the party would work hard to correct their mistakes, Pillai said: "We will be rectifying those weaknesses. We are living in the bourgeoisie society. I told you about that, the feudal remnants are also there. So they try to seep into the party and we fight those trends. Factionalism is there, careerism is there, and individualism is there. So, may other weaknesses are there."
Earlier, reflecting on the party's defeat in West Bengal, CPI-M General Secretary Prakash Karat conceded that there were 'mistakes' in the land acquisition process initiated by the party in the state.
"The review we have made is of that what we have identified as our weaknesses and shortcomings, the question of land acquisition, wherein some mistakes were made in West Bengal on that issue, and our review of how we have tried to implement the tasks of the last party Congress (meet), on the question of taking up issues of various sections of the people, the movements and struggles we have conducted, how far we have been able to consolidate that into political influence," added Karat.
In 2011, the CPM faced a massive defeat in West Bengal after controlling the reins of the state for over three decades in the state assembly elections. (ANI)
