Gurgaon, April 9 (IANS) At least 30 school children had a narrow escape Monday when a tree under which they were studying caught fire because of a powerful power line carrying 11,000 volts.
NGO Suparaana Ka Aangaan's volunteers were schooling the kids in Sector 52 in an open space. There was a blast and the tree was aflame around 11 a.m.
"We thought it was a blast in a CNG cylinder in a car. Suddenly the tree was on fire," NGO organizer Suparaana Sethi told IANS.
"Stunned, we removed the children and carpets. Some kids complained of deafness for some time," Sethi added. Later the electricity department cut down the burnt tree.
