New Delhi, Apr 6 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday lashed at the central government for deviating from the main issue of the letter written by Army Chief General Vijay Kumar Singh, mentioned that the arms possessed by the Indian military were obsolete.
While speaking to reporters, BJP spokesperson Tarun Vijay said that the government failed to address the issue that was highlighted in the letter by the army chief.
"The government is trying to focus on the relationship between the army chief and the defence minister, this is bogus. The focus should be on the content of the letter which army chief had written to the Prime Minister. The content of the letter was leaked and the army chief has said this is an act of treason.
"Besides that CAG report, which says that the obsolete weapons have been given to navy, air force and army, must be looked into. We condemn this kind of attitude of the government. This is a serious case reflecting on the unpreparedness of the armed forces," said Vijay.
General V K Singh had earlier written a letter to the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, in which he warned that the country's security is at stake as it's inventory of arms and ammunition was not upto the mark.
General Singh had added that 97 percent of the ammunition used for air defence (anti-aircraft artillery) was 'obsolete'. (ANI)
