Army Chief seeks more time to reply to CBI on Tatra bribery allegations

New Delhi, Tue, 03 Apr 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Apr.3 (ANI): Chief of Army Staff General V.K. Singh has written to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), seeking more time to reply on the agency's query into bribery allegations related to the supply of Tatra trucks to the army.

Meanwhile, the CBI has questioned the owner of Britain-based Vectra group Ravi Rishi thrice in the last week in connection with alleged irregularities in the supply of Tatra trucks to the Indian Army.

Rishi has been named as an accused in the agency's case, but has so far not been arrested.

Rishi has termed the allegations against him as unfortunate, saying the trucks were sold through public sector undertaking BEML.

He also said the charges levelled with regard to Tatra trucks by General Singh are baseless.

The move comes after General Singh alleged that former defence intelligence chief Lt. Gen. (retired) Tejinder Singh had offered him a bribe of Rs.14 crore for clearing a consignment of 600 sub-standard trucks.

The name of Tatra and BEML was taken by the army in a press release issued by it on March 5, alleging that Lt. Gen. Tejinder Singh had offered a bribe on behalf of Tatra and Vectra Ltd. (ANI)
