New Delhi, Apr 2 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has said Team Anna should focus on burning issues like corruption rather than making generalised sweeping statements on lawmakers.
"Whatever he (Arvind Kejriwal) has said, there is no justification of that, and I believe that what all he said, was not right and we should avoid that. We should not see the entire incident as a fight between civil society and the parliament. Sometimes, we also don't approve most of their views, as we think that what they have proposed is baseless and inappropriate. But if we keep commenting or fighting on the issue, then focus would be lost on main issues," Naqvi told media here.
"Civil society and parliament should not be at war, and he (Kejriwal) should not make a generalised sweeping statement and tease lawmakers. One should continue to lead the fight against corruption, which is currently a burning issue of the country. We welcome it. But if you say that all politicians are thieves, then how can there be democracy? Democracy is a bouquet of representatives of the people," he added
On Sunday, Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Virbhadra Singh sent a legal notice to Kejriwal, asking him to give an unconditional apology for naming him as one of the 14 Cabinet Ministers who were corrupt or had a criminal past.
Emphatically stating that he had a spotless reputation as a politician and a minister over the last five decades, Singh said Kejriwal should apologise immediately for his comments, or face legal consequences.
Kejriwal had earlier released a list of 14 ministers who would be under investigation under for corruption if a strong ombudsman bill is passed.
He took the names of around 25 politicians, including ministers Sharad Pawar, S.M. Krishna, P.Chidambaram, Praful Patel, Kapil Sibal, Kamal Nath, Farooq Abdullah, Ajit Singh, Sri Prakash Jaiswal, Sushil Kumar Shinde, Vilasrao Deshmukh, M.K. Azhagiri and G.K. Vasan.
"If the Lokpal Bill comes into force, FIRs will be lodged against 14 ministers of the Union Government," he said.
"Who will punish people like them? Delhi Police or the CBI? No one knows because these people will never pass Lokpal Bill," Kejriwal said. (ANI)
