New Delhi, April 1 (IANS) India have qualified for the World Track Cycling Championships for the first time.
O. Bikram Singh from BSNL, Amrit Singh from Railways and Amarjit Singh of Punjab will represent India at the event, to be held in Melbourne April 4-8. The trio qualified on the basis of their performance in the Asian Championships at Kuala Lumpur in February.
The three riders achieved the feat despite getting no financial help from the union sports ministry.
Twenty-four countries out of 147 had made the cut for the Championships after battling it out in the continental qualification. The event is also a qualifier for the London Olympics.
Meanwhile, India will host 2013 Asian Championships for track and road events.
