Karnataka Congress seeks a 'detailed discussion' on porngate episode

Bangalore, Mar 31 (ANI): Karnataka Congress leader DK Shivakumar has sought detailed discussion on porngate episode, saying the issue has dented the image of the state assembly.

Talking to media here, Shivakumar said the Speaker was trying to protect the BJP leaders and that was the reason why he didn't allow the issue to be taken up in the assembly.

"It was very astonishing that till the last moment they never allowed us to even speak, take up that subject, never allowed a discussion, though it is a very important subject,. The morality and the image of the Karnataka legislative assembly has gone very deep down."

Shivakumar said that the government wanted to protect their members. He said that the issue is is being taken up in the public. "We have the opportunity to discuss this issue", he added.

Shivakumar also said the party wants to raise the issue again in the assembly as the issue has tainted the image of the legislators of the Karnataka assembly.

"We want a detailed discussion to be taken place on this issue because the Karnataka legislators' image should be protected," he added.

Congress leader Siddaramaiah said Speaker failed to protect the dignity of the house and 'deliberately didn't let us to discuss the porngate issue in the assembly'.

"The government deliberately placed the report of the legislature sub-committee on porn issue at the last minute of the session. The Speaker failed to protect the dignity of the house; he is the custodian of the house because this was listed three days back that it has to be placed on the floor of the house. Deliberately the government did not place the report three days back. If they had placed (the report) on the floor of the house then we would have got opportunity to discuss on this," he added.

Laxman Savadi was caught watching a porn video on a cell-phone along with C.C. Patil and Krishna Palemar on February 7.

The incident triggered a fierce outcry and gave opposition parties plenty of political ammunition against the BJP. (ANI)
