Ranchi, Mar 30 (ANI): The Election Commission (EC) on Friday put on hold the counting for Rajya Sabha polls in Jharkhand the after seizure of over two crore rupees from the car of a candidate's relative here.
The EC in its direction to the Returning Officer and Chief Electoral Officer, Jharkhand said that the counting of the votes shall not be taken up until written clearance is given by the commission.
The commission has also asked for a detailed report on the conduct of the polls and any untoward incident happening in the process.
Earlier in the day, income tax officials had seized cash of over two crore rupees from Namkum area in Ranchi.
Two persons were also arrested along with the cash and have been held up by the IT sleuths for interrogation.
It is reported that the car belonged to the brother of R. K. Aggarwal, who is contesting as an independent candidate in the Rajya Sabha polls from Jharkhand.
The money seized, was handed over to the police at the Namkum police station.
"The car loaded with cash was seized by the Income Tax officials. The cash laden car was coming from Jamshedpur. It has been seized by the income tax officials. The income tax officials have counted the money and they said that it was 20.15 millions rupees," said police inspector R. D. Singh. (ANI)
