Bhopal, Mar 27 (ANI): Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Tuesday said that Army chief General V K Singh should have registered a case immediately after he had allegedly been offered a bribe last year.
Singh told reporters here that purchase deals for defence forces must be carried out in a transparent manner.
"In matters such as this, one must be cautious. In purchase deals, the central and state governments should have a transparent approach. If there was a complaint, it would have been better if the Army Chief had got a case registered," said Singh.
In a recent interview to 'The Hindu' newspaper, Army Chief General V K Singh alleged that a defence equipment lobbyist offered him a bribe of 14 crores rupees for approving the purchase of 600 sub-standard vehicles of a particular make.
He told the newspaper that the army had 7,000 of the vehicles in question, many of which had been sold over the years at exorbitant prices with no questions being asked.
In response, Defence Minister A K Antony has ordered a probe into the allegations by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). (ANI)
