Kolkata, March 27 (IANS) A section of civil right activists and Maoist sympathisers Tuesday hit out at the West Bengal government for failing to repeal the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
While the Trinamool Congress opposes the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), it refuses to withdraw the UAPA which is equally draconian," said right activist Choton Das.
Another activist, Sujato Bhadra, accused Banerjee of not keeping her promise of repealing the Act.
"She had promised UAPA will not be enforced in the state as long as she is at the helm," said Bhadra, who in November stepped aside from the peace process following the killing of Maoist leader Kishenji.
Five Moists arrested by the Kolkata and Andhra Pradesh police have been detained under UAPA since March 13.
