Chennai, Mar.26 (ANI): Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) lawmakers boycotted the budget session of the Tamil Nadu state assembly on Monday over the issue of fund mismanagement by the AIADMK Government.
Minutes after state Finance Minister O Panneerselvam rose to present the budget proposals for 2012-13, DMK legislators led by their leader, Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin, staged a walkout.
Stalin said his party had no faith in the budget presented by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and her All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) party.
"Ahead of the budget session, the Chief Minister had announced plans to spend 34 crore rupees for the modernisation of the state police force and 94 crore rupees for building a new government-run engineering college. This shows that the chief minister herself is not sure about the financial status of the state and that is why we do not have any faith in the financial survey presented by the government. Therefore, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party has decided to walkout from the House," said Stalin.
The budget session commenced a week after Jayalalithaa gave the orders to go ahead with the controversial Kudankulam nuclear power plant. (ANI)
