Wellington, Mar 25(ANI): South Africa ended day three of the final Test match against the New Zealand in Wellington in a strong position declaring their first innings at 474 for the loss of nine wickets.

The Kiwis were 25 without loss at stumps. Mark Gillespie claimed four Proteas wickets from 32 overs.

After removing JP Duminy for 103 before lunch, Gillespie added the wickets of Jacques Rudolph (11) and Dale Steyn (0) in the middle session, Stuff.co.nz reports.

Gillespie also claimed the big wicket of vice-captain AB de Villiers, who chopped a defensive shot onto his stumps when his score was 38.

Alviro Petersen carried on with his patient knock from day two, as he struck his third Test century. He played a marathon innings of 156 of 335 balls, batting for 503 minutes.

South Africa were well set for a 500-plus total at 362-3 before Chris Martin ended opener Petersen's long vigil in the first over after lunch.

Martin had figures of 2-95 off 28 overs while spinner Daniel Vettori sent down 38 wicket less overs for 77 runs. (ANI)
