Kolkata, Mar 22 (ANI): A major fire engulfed the Hatibagan market, one of the oldest trading centres in Kolkata during morning hours today.
Several shops and workshops located in the market were reduced to ashes by the fire.
The fire broke out early morning as the flames gutted many of the meat, fish, fruits and ghee shops of the area.
Civic authorities said that 30 fire tenders were rushed to the spot and efforts were made to douse the flames.
"I received a call at around five in the morning that fire broke out at Hatibagan. But when I reached the spot I saw that my factory has not been damaged but the nearby factories were on fire. The fire is still on," said Vibhav Shah, a shopowner.
No casualty has been reported so far and the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. (ANI)
