London, Mar 21 (ANI): Engelbert Humperdinck insists that he is still a sex symbol at the age of 75.
The singer, a surprise choice to represent the UK at the annual song contest in May, will be performing his new song 'Love Will Set You Free' says women may throw knickers at him while he is on stage.
"I used to save them and then give them away in big trunks as memorabilia," the Daily Mail quoted him as saying.
"Women still throw knickers yes, I think it is people that want to be noticed," he said.
On being asked if he still had sex symbol status, he added: "Yes, I would say it has had staying power."
Some Eurovision fans wanted a younger entrant and also criticised the song choice for being slow and boring.
"What registers deeply in the minds of an audience are good lyrics and good melody and something that has a lasting power," Engelbert said while hitting back at his detractors.
"The fast numbers are good and exciting, but whether they have longevity is another story.
"My aim is to keep it classy, you can't act it, you have to be it.
"I would say to the doubters, you have trust in me as an artist, I have been in the business 45 years and the younger ones have lesser experience," he said.
Darts fan Engelbert says he will take a board and his arrows to Eurovision in Baku, Azerbaijan to keep him relaxed. (ANI)
