New Delhi, Mar 20 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed the Central Government's review petition in the Vodafone tax case.
The apex court stated that there was no tax liability in the Vodafone International Holdings-Hutchison Essar transaction.
The Supreme Court had earlier set aside a Bombay High Court judgement asking Vodafone International Holding to pay income tax of Rs 11,000 crore on a deal abroad.
In response to which the government had filed a petition to review its judgment in the case.
The apex court had directed the tax department to return a sum of Rs 2,500 crore deposited by Vodafone in compliance of its interim order within two months.
Vodafone had challenged the September 8, 2010 judgment of the Bombay High Court in the apex court. The Bombay High Court judgment had held that Indian IT department had jurisdiction over the deal. (ANI)
