Patna, Mar 17 (ANI): Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) legislators on Saturday staged a mass demonstration here today against the state government over shortage of power supply, demanding for replacement of damaged transformers.
One of the protesting lawmakers, Bhai Virendra expressed his anguish over the negligence of the government for not changing the damaged transformers of the city.
"By providing false assurance, the state government of Bihar is deceiving the people. They are wasting the public money by raising the surcharge. Also, they had said that they would change the damaged transformers within 24 hours in the city and within 72 hours in the rural areas but their assurance was merely an announcement. Not a single damaged transformer has been changed," said Virendra.
Further he noted that the farmers in rural areas had to bear the brunt of the lack of power supply as their work was getting affected.
To mark their protest, the lawmakers gathered outside the Bihar Legislative Assembly building, carrying placards reading 'Change Burnt Transformers Without Delay' and raised slogans.
The per capita annual consumption of power in Bihar is approximately 100 Kilowatt-hour as compared to the national average of nearly 700 Kilowatt-hour.
According to the local media reports, the rural electrification, which is approximately 10 percent at present, is likely to increase to about 100 percent in coming future. (ANI)
