Engelbert Humperdinck supports home team Leicester City for FA Cup

London, Mar 17 (ANI): Legendary singer Engelbert Humperdinck is backing his team Leicester City in their FA Cup quarter-final against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Humperdinck, 75, grew up in the city, has a mansion there and a big soft spot for the Foxes.

"My message to the team is this 'You're playing for everyone in our city, do your best and, hopefully, you'll come out on top'," the Sun quoted him as saying.

"Like a manager, I can't affect the result. It's down to the players," he said.

His favourite all-time Leicester star is club legend and friend Alan Birchenall.

"I used to visit Filbert Street when I was young and have been to the new stadium a number of times.

"They always get me to do a job, like going on to pick the winning lottery ticket. I'm always happy to help, as Leicester is my home.

"Wouldn't it be ironic if they were to qualify for Europe the same year I'm singing at the Eurovision Song Contest? Maybe we can both win this year!" he added.

Humperdinck, who also lives in LA, will wear the Leicester shirt he owns to bring the club luck.

SunSport surprised him this week while he was preparing for Azerbaijan by presenting him with the FA Cup.

The singer, who has sold 150million records and whose many hits include Release Me, admitted lifting it was an "incredible feeling."

"I even kissed the Cup, just like a player at the final.

"It must be a big thrill to hold this trophy aloft at Wembley Stadium as a winner and get that photo kissing it. What a feeling," he said. (ANI)
