Islamabad, Mar 15(ANI): The Pakistan National Assembly (NA) has unanimously adopted a resolution seeking to evolve a comprehensive framework to regulate the role and functioning of security agencies.
The resolution moved by Member of Opposition Zahid Hamid was not opposed by the government as agreed at the Business Advisory Committee, and the House adopted it unanimously.
The House also approved the decision to constitute an eight-member committee with equal representation from both treasury and opposition benches to monitor progress on the issue of missing persons.
The House authorised the Speaker to constitute the committee in consultation with the Leader of the House and the Leader of the Opposition.
Hamid had stated that his resolution pertained to the plight of the families of the missing persons.
The resolution demanded that the government ensure prevalence of rule of law and implement the observations of the Pakistan Supreme Court and the Commission of Inquiry recommendations on forced disappearances with immediate effect to enact a necessary legislation in this regard.
It urged the Pakistan government to resolve the issue of missing persons and implement the recommendations of the Commission of inquiry formed to probe journalist Saleem Shahzad's murder. (ANI)
