Wellington, Mar 14 (ANI): New Zealand coach John Wright has said that Brendon McCullum's position at No 3 in the Test batting order is set to be more than a stop-gap measure.
Wright made it clear that McCullum's future in the side is set to be behind the openers, despite Rob Nicol's unconvincing form against the Proteas.
With Nicol debuting in last week's first Test in Dunedin, McCullum dropped down a spot to make way and is set to do so again in the second test, starting tomorrow at Hamilton.
"Brendon McCullum, to be honest, has looked very comfortable at three, and perhaps that's a way of things to come for us," Wright said.
After performing well against Zimbabwe, Nicol has struggled against South Africa, most recently scoring 6 and 19 on Test debut. (ANI)
