Piravom (Kerala), Mar 14 (ANI): Defence Minister A.K. Antony has said the Italian marines, who were involved in the killing two Indian fishermen off the coast of Kerala, will be tried under Indian laws.
"The Indian Government has taken a stand on this issue that is to fully help the Kerala Government in whichever step they take, so to the top Italian ministers even to their Prime Minister to all of them, the Central Government has said that the Italian mariners have done a wrong thing by killing the two fishermen and its very unfortunate, but the stand taken by them is wrong," Antony told the media here on Tuesday.
"Their case will be taken up under Indian law-pressures notwithstanding-they were arrested, presented at the court now the case going on in the Indian court," he added.
The two Italian marines, Latorre Massimillano and Salvatore Girone, were sentenced to 14 days custody by a court earlier on February 20.
The marines are accused of shooting two Indian fishermen who they believed to be pirates.
Italy had taken the stand that India has no jurisdiction over the matter because it occurred in international waters. (ANI)
