London, Mar 10 (ANI): The world of footballer's wives and girlfriends, which has always been a source of fascination for the public, is being brought to the London stage and will even star real-life WAG Jessica Lawlor, fiancee of former Manchester City star Stephen Ireland.
Since the 2006 World Cup, the term WAG has been synonymous with fame, fortune, and ridiculously expensive heels.
Lawlor will play a spoilt and fame-hungry WAG Victoria, but she insists that the role is not a 'real" reflection of WAG life.
"It's called WAG - the Musical, but it's not quite what it sounds like, it's about women in general, as well as exploring the obsession with the whole WAG culture," the Daily Mail quoted her as saying.
"It's all tongue in cheek. I play an over-the-top character, she's very bitchy, so it makes it a very fun one to play. I've plenty of experiences to draw on.
"Rehearsals start in May, and I'm pretty nervous. I don't profess to being the finished article as an actress or singer, I know I'm no Mariah Carey but the show is about fun and that's what I hope to bring," she said.
Producer Karen Struel-White, is busy preparing 'WAG! The Musical' for its global debut.
The subject is close to home for Struel-White, as she is the daughter of Malcolm Struel, former chairman of Swansea City.
The 50-year-old has admitted to dating highly paid footballers as a result of her father's position at at Swansea FC, and says that the show will be a tongue-in-cheek look at the WAG lifestyle.
"We have a lot of attractive ladies - it's going to be quite glamorous and I think people will enjoy it,' Karen told Wales Online," Struel-White said.
WAG and former Fame Academy contestant Pippa Fulton, 29, the girlfriend of Brentford striker Clayton Donaldson is also due to appear.
Belinda Owusu, 22, who starred as Libby Fox in 'EastEnders' has also joined the cast.
Behind the scenes Heather Swan, who divorced former Cardiff City's Michael Chopra two years ago, will work as the production's technical director.
"They're WAGs but they're also talented ladies as well," Karen said.
"We had a full audition back in January and we did have hundreds and hundreds of would-be actresses. But Jessica and Pippa, who are official WAGs, were fantastic and it was an easy task to give them the roles they have got.
"I have been brought up with football from a very young age and I have lived through what it's like to be connected to a premiership football team,' continued the mum-of-two.
"It's very glamorous, you get invited to lavish events and become part of an exciting experience.
"If you ask most girls these days what they want to be, most of them want to be WAGs. They do get paid very well yes, and they lead a very glamorous and special life but they do work hard and they are talented people - so good for them," she added.
'WAG! The Musical' will be staged at Ye Olde Rose and Crown Theatre Pub in London from June 4 to June 23. (ANI)
