Slim tops the list for a second year in a row. He is the chairman of the Mexican telecommunications conglomerate Telmex, and is worth about 69 billion dollars, the New York Post quoted Forbes, as saying in a statement.
Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates is the second wealthiest person in the world, worth a reported 61 billion dollars, while Berkshire Hathaway Chairman Warren Buffett is third with an estimated net worth of 44 billion dollars.
Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy Chairman Bernard Arnault, worth 41 billion dollars, is the world's fourth richest person, while Amancio Ortega, who founded fashion retailer Zara, is the fifth richest person in the world, worth about 37.5 billion dollars.
The rankings are based on a "snapshot of wealth as on February 14, 2012," when Forbes estimated wealth based on current stock prices and exchange rates around the globe.
The list contains every person in the world whose estimated net worth was at least a billion dollars on February 14.
This year's list included a record 1,226 billionaires worth an overall 4.6 trillion dollars. (ANI)
