Azam Khan pulls up Beni over proposal of tie-up with BSP

Moradabad , Mon, 05 Mar 2012 ANI

Moradabad, Mar 5 (ANI): Senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan on Monday hit out at Union Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma over his remark of favouring a tie- up with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), saying the latter was making such comment to be on the safer side, as he is on the verge of being outcast by the Congress Party.

"This is a blackmailing tactics of Beni Prasad Verma so that he is not thrown out of Congress as well. He will be surely thrown out of the federal ministry and to secure his position he is talking nice about Bahujan Samaj Party. He had said that Samajwadi Party is a party of goons. So, he should remember that his relation with Samajwadi Party had started deteriorating when he was involved in murder of two 'Yadav' community people," he said.

Khan further denied having a tie up with Congress Party to form a coalition government in Uttar Pradesh state.

"We have 10-12 hours left for the results of the polls to come out. No calamity is going to take place and we will take any decision once the results are out," he said.

Describing Samajwadi Party to be a 'party of goons', Verma earlier in the day said: "The democracy has been hurt whenever the Samajwadi Party (SP) came into power. The others do not do very good, but they do not hurt the democracy."

Verma had earlier on Sunday said that the Congress should forge an alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), as BSP chief Mayawati was thousand times better than Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Congress Party had, however, played down Verma's comment, saying it was his personal opinion.

The Uttar Pradesh polls are being viewed as an opportunity for major political parties to re-establish their foothold in the country's fifth largest and most populous state.

The first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh phases of polling occurred on February 8, 11, 15, 19, 23, 28 respectively and March 3.

The poll results will broadly indicate trends for the 2014 general elections. (ANI)
