London, Mar 4 (ANI): Chelsea owner Roman Ibramovich has sacked coach Andre Villas-Boas after less than satisfying performances of his team in this season.
Villas-Boas, 34, saw his side slump to a 1-0 defeat at West Brom yesterday, which acted as the final straw for trigger-happy Abramovich.
A statement on Chelsea's official website expressed its regret at sacking Boas, saying they felt disappointed at ending the relationship so early.
"Andre Villa-Boas has parted company with Chelsea Football Club today. The board would like to record our gratitude for his work and express our disappointment that the relationship has ended so early," the Sun quoted the website.
The statement further said results and performances of Chelsea were less than satisfying and were showing no signs of improvement at a crucial stage of the premier league season.
The club has appointed assistant coach Roberto Di Matteo as the new interim manager of the team.
Chelsea will be traveling to St Andrew's for an FA Cup fifth-round replay with Birmingham on Tuesday. (ANI)
