London, Mar 2 (ANI): Amy Winehouse's parents Mitch and Janis have decided to provide financial backing to one future star at the same performing arts school where their daughter's talent had flourished.
Amy had auditioned at the school when she was 13.
"Amy was a pupil at the Sylvia Young Theatre School. This is where her talent was recognised and nurtured," the Sun quoted Mitch as saying.
"The Foundation would like to give a child who otherwise couldn't afford the same opportunity the chance to realise their talents.
"The scholarship is such great news for us after all the recent ups and downs.
"Nothing will ever make up for our loss, but this is a wonderful thing for us to be able to do. The scholarship is something that we are deeply, deeply proud to be offering. It will keep Amy's name alive in the best possible way," he said.
Founder Sylvia was so blown away by Amy's version of On The Sunny Side Of The Street that she had immediately offered her a place.
In an essay written as part of her school application, Amy had explained: "I want people to hear my voice and just forget their troubles."
"We loved Amy and we are thrilled and honoured the Amy Winehouse Foundation is setting up this scholarship in her name," Sylvia said.
"It would be wonderful to find another Amy but there was only one of her. We would be happy to find a singer, dancer or actor who has a special talent," she added. (ANI)
