Islamabad, Mar 1 (ANI): US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said that Pakistan has "no basis" for detaining doctor Shakil Afridi who helped the CIA track down Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad.
"His work on behalf of the effort to take down Bin Laden was in Pakistan's interests as well as in America's," Clinton said.
Clinton adding that the US has let this view be known and will continue to press on the issue, The Express Tribune reports.
Clinton remarks came in response to a query by Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, who had previously asked the US Government to give Dr Afridi US citizenship and to award him the Congressional Gold Medal for his services.
In response to Secretary Clinton's remarks, Rohrabacher said that if Pakistan doesn't free Dr Afridi, it would be their (Pakistan's) decision based on non-cooperation.
Rohrabacher has also asked President Barack Obama to personally intervene in Afridi's case, amid reports that his assets had been seized by the Pakistan government. (ANI)
