Vettori may return for T20 World Cup

Wellington, Tue, 28 Feb 2012 ANI

Wellington, Feb.28 (ANI): Former New Zealand cricket skipper Daniel Vettori has said that he has not completely ruled out the possibility of turning out for the national squad during the Twenty20 cricket World Cup to be held in Sri Lanka later this year.

Vettori, who last played a T20 international nearly two years ago but still plays in India's Indian Premier League, Australia's Big Bash League and New Zealand Cricket's HRV Cup, told The Press a return was unlikely, but not impossible.

"At this stage, there's no plan for a comeback, but if those guys (Black Caps management) talk to me, then I'd certainly consider it," stuff.co.nz quoted him, as saying.

He's happy with the decision he made to pull out of both limited overs forms of the game at international level to focus on prolonging and enjoying his test career.

He also said with Ronnie Hira, Nathan McCullum, Tarun Nethula, Rob Nicol and Kane Williamson all being used as slow bowling options currently, there was no need for him to return.

National selection manager Kim Littlejohn was unavailable to comment yesterday, but released a short statement saying Vettori would be considered.

"Dan is a world-class player and he would definitely be considered as part of the Twenty20 squad if he was to make himself available," he said. (ANI)
