New Delhi, Feb 24 (ANI): Asserting that the UPA Government is facing a crisis of leadership and faith, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday accused the ruling Congress Party of failing to deal effectively with the challenges of the economy, consequently burdening the common man with rising prices of essential commodities.
"This year and the next year there are two elections in Delhi. This year there will be elections for the Municipal Corporation and the next year there will be polls for the Delhi legislative assembly. This in itself is hard to say that the Lok Sabha polls will be held in 2014. The way the Central Government is losing its popularity; the data crisis is coming in front of them," said senior Bharatiya BJP leader Arun Jaitley.
Jaitley said the UPA Government is facing stiff opposition from its allies on every issue, and added that the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls will be a litmus test for them.
"Their partners are protesting against them on every subject. So, how old will the Central Government take on it is a question mark. They meet new partners or not that the Uttar Pradesh polls will decide. And, the position of the Congress there is that it is rife in the media, but very low above the ground in Uttar Pradesh. The political condition in the country is going through these situations," he said.
Jaitley, who was addressing the gathering during the 'Jan Sangharsh Yatra' called by Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta, said the corrupt and the mass anti-image of the Centre is out before the public.
"Today, in this situation, where on one side is the Government of Delhi whose corrupt image, the mass anti-image is out before the public. It is the responsibility of any government to continue to felicitate life the way the society progresses. Water, electricity is expensive in Delhi. The prices of essential commodities are rising because the Central Government is not able to operate the economy well. This all is burdening the common man of Delhi," said Jaitley.
"Secondly, there is another big crisis that the Government at the Centre, which also has a crisis of leadership and faith. The Central Government has also lost the power to take its own decisions. The Central Government has also lost the power to give the country a leadership," he added.
Jaitley also hit out at the UPA Government over the 2G spectrum scam and the 2010 Commonwealth Games (CWG) scam.
"The corruptions that took place earlier appear to be very small in comparison to the corruption charges on this government now. We remember that the Rajiv Gandhi Government has lost the elections in the bofors case, which was only of Rs. 64,00o croes," said Jaitley.
"In the 2G scam, the Government of India has deficit of Rs. 1,76,000 crores. If this is the situation in the country, then the two elections in Delhi this year and the next year will come under this political situation," he added. (ANI)
