New Delhi, Feb 22 (ANI): The Central Government on Wednesday rubbished reports that it was considering a review of the Model Code of Conduct that would include bringing it out of the purview of the Election Commission.
"Yesterday, some controversy has been raised about the Model Code of Conduct on which our ministers have already given the press release yesterday. Even then some confusion persists here. I would like to say that the terms of reference of the Group of Ministers (GoM) on corruption does not include the Model Code of Conduct," Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) V. Narayanswamy told mediapersons after a GoM meeting on corruption.
"Therefore, today in the deliberations since it was not the terms of reference, it was not discussed. And therefore, the question of the issue of Model Code of Conduct being deliberated in the GoM does not arise," he added.
Narayanswamy termed the whole issue an act of media creation.
"This is media creation. There was no discussion on it in the GoM on corruption. There is some misconception," he said.
Narayanswamy further informed that the GoM on corruption has cleared the Public Procurement Bill.
"Second report of the GoM on corruption, today we discussed and several issues have been mentioned there including the Public Procurement Bill and the GoM on corruption has cleared it. And also the other issues relating to the Central Government employees issues. Ultimately, it will go to the Prime Minister and thereafter it will go to the Cabinet," he said. (ANI)
