Kuala Lumpur, Feb 21 (ANI): A sandwich, made with a little kunyit (turmeric) by a Malaysian chef, was named Best Sandwich in the World at a competition in France.
Darren Chin beat eight other participants at the Delifrance Sandwich World Cup competition, said his father, David Chin, 60.
"It is an achievement the sandwich is not a staple food here, but we can still make the best sandwich in the world," the Star Online quoted him as saying.
The Sandwich World Cup, which was organised by cafe-bakery chain Delifrance, took place on February 14 at the Paris School of Bakery and Pastry, and eight international entrants presented their preparations before a panel of international culinary experts.
The sandwiches had to meet certain criteria, including flavour association, speed of preparation and ease of assembly and consumption as well as "nutritional and cost price."
Darren, 32, prepared a sandwich of pork combined with herbs and spices and decorated it with vegetables.
David said the "X-factor" ingredient in the sandwich that clinched it for his son could be the kunyit.
"Darren wanted to demonstrate that the techniques he learned at his culinary school Le Cordon Blue can naturally be used with Asian ingredients.
"Some restaurants have already approached him and he will make his decision where to do his internship," he said. (ANI)
