Sharad Pawar expects success for Congress -NCP coalition in Maharashtra

New Delhi, Feb 17 (ANI): Union Agriculture Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Friday said he expected positive results for his coalition in the civic body polls in Maharashtra.

 

Pawar said his Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and its partner, the Congress Party, would fare well in the municipal corporation polls.

 

"I am expecting a good result in entire Maharashtra. In the district council, definitely Congress and NCP are going to do well," Pawar told the media here.

 

"Municipal elections are over, there Congress and NCP have practically got about 78-80 per cent seats and in municipal corporation, whatever the situation was there, about five years back, I am confident, there will be a definite improvement," he added.

 

According to reports, the country's richest civic body, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, appears heading towards a hung House with the Shiv Sena and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) combine leading in 75 seats and Congress-NCP alliance leading in 50 seats.

 

Counting for 10 municipal corporation polls that was held on Thursday and elections to 27 zilla parishads and 309 Panchayat Samitis held on February 7 began this morning.

 

In Mumbai, the ruling Shiv Sena-BJP combine was leading in 75 seats, while the Congress-NCP combine was ahead in 50 seats. (ANI)
