BJP takes potshots at Rahul Gandhi for tearing manifesto in UP election rally

New Delhi, Feb 16 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday hit out at Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi for tearing away the manifesto of a political during his public meeting in Uttar Pradesh, and termed the entire episode to be undemocratic.

"Rahul Gandhi, you have now become a senior member of the party. And to tear apart, the opposition's manifesto in public is not a democratic tradition. However, if you have done it, it is your concern," BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad told the media here.

Charging the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Samajwadi Party (SP) of making "only promises", Rahul Gandhi had on Wednesday tore a piece of paper at an election meeting to drive home the point that "mere lists" of assurances were of no use.

Prasad also criticized Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Government in Uttar Pradesh and the former government led by Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav for being allegedly involved in the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam.

"A lot of skeletons are still going to come out. The larger issue is, what about the liability of Mayawati herself as a Chief Minister and also the earlier regime of Mulayam Singh Yadav because the entire scam extends to last about 7-8 years, we all know it, is spreading into 50 billion rupees," he said.

The NRHM scam in Uttar Pradesh has turned murkier with another health official found dead under mysterious circumstances, the fifth victim in the last one-year.

Uttar Pradesh Police on Wednesday found the body of Mahendra Sharma, an accountant, lying in a pool of blood with severe injuries on his head and face, from the Pasgawan health centre area in Lakhimpur Kheri district. (ANI)
