Israel embassy car attack probe is in full swing: Delhi Police Commissioner

New Delhi/Faridabad, Feb 16 (ANI): Delhi Police Commissioner B. K. Gupta on Thursday said that investigations in the case regarding the attack on the wife of an Israeli diplomat, Tal Yehoshua, have gathered pace, though it is still in the initial phase.

"We are carrying out a detailed investigation, the CFSL report is yet to come and we are also taking help from other security agencies and the investigation is being carried out with immediate effect and special teams have been deployed too," Gupta told the media here.

"So, though the investigation is in full swing, we are still in the initial stage and we will divulge details as soon as we get to know," he added.

A forensic report of the blast, which took place in an Israeli embassy car at about 3 : 15 p.m. on Monday, has been submitted to the Union Home Ministry and a copy of the document is also being sent to the Delhi Police. The details of the report are yet to be divulged.

Media reports suggested that though the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) report has not been out as yet, but large amount of explosives were used in the blast.

The prime focus of the police is to identify the motorcyclist, who stuck the magnetic bomb.

Tal Yehoshua, the wife of an Israeli defence attache working at the embassy, was among the four people injured in the car blast that took place near the high-security Aurangzeb Road Crossing in New Delhi on Monday.

Meanwhile, Manoj Kumar Sharma, car driver of the Israeli embassy, who was also injured in the incident, said the attack on the diplomat's vehicle on Monday occurred in split seconds, and added that he had just heard a loud thud before they fell unconscious.

"On the day of the incident, when we left from the Embassy for Chanakyapuri, so when we were on our way, we stopped the car at a traffic signal. Suddenly, we felt something touching from behind and there was a loud thud," Sharma told the media in Faridabad.

"As soon as we looked behind, the blast occurred. It took five to 10 seconds for the blast to occur, we didn't have any time to think and we didn't even realise where the noise came from and who the person was behind the blast. We did not know anyone was following," he added.

Sharma asserted that he was too shocked to react and it was impossible for him to identify if a motorbike was following them.

"No, we could not see anything. As soon as we halted at the traffic signal, hardly after 10 seconds, the blast occurred, all the windows cracked and the vehicle caught fire," he said.

Sharma, who was himself undergoing treatment at a hospital in the capital and was discharged on Wednesday evening, further said that he dragged the diplomat's wife out of the vehicle, so that she could be safe and taken to a hospital for immediate treatment.

"First of all, I was shocked and didn't know how to react. All the windows cracked and I was not able to see anything. Then I looked around and saw that Madam (wife of Israeli diplomat) was severely injured, I tried to take her out, since the car had caught fire and I thought that I should take her away from the vehicle, since a second blast could occur," said Sharma.

"She was unable to move and as soon as I pulled her, we both fell flat on the ground and then I dragged her away from the car, so that she could be safe and took her to the hospital," he added.

Israel has accused Iran of orchestrating the attack on their mission staff in New Delhi, Bangkok and Georgia. (ANI)
