Bhadohi/Unnao, Feb 13 (ANI): Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadavas accused Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati of promoting ill-governance in the state.
"The Mayawati Government has not done anything good. It has promoted crime and wrong doing. Somebody from the crowd or any government official can tell me a single noble work done by the ruling party for the people of the state," Yadav told a gathering here.
Yadav also assured farmers about clearing their debts after his party forms the government in the state.
"The first work which I will do after forming the government would clear the debt of poor farmers who have a debt of around fifty lakhs on the first day itself," he said.
Meanwhile, Mayawati accused the Congress party of not attending to the problems of the poor.
"The Congress party in its 40 years of rule after the independence of the country, was not able to remove poverty and unemployment then how is it possible that in coming five years of its rule, it would be able to eradicate poverty and unemployment like issues from the country," Mayawati said in Unnao.
On the use of the Batla house encounter in the current polls, she said the Congress is playing vote-bank politics to gain votes.
"And even today, this party (Congress party)....through the issue of Batla house encounter, is appeasing Muslim community to achieve political gains," she said.
The Uttar Pradesh polls are being viewed as an opportunity for major parties to re-establish their foothold in the country's fifth largest and most populous state.
A new 403-member state assembly will be elected in March. The poll results will broadly indicate trends for the 2014 general elections. (ANI)
