Rahul Gandhi accuses Mulayam of misleading voters with false promises

Allahabad, Mon, 13 Feb 2012 ANI

Allahabad, Feb 13 (ANI): Talking a dig at Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has dismissed all election promises made by Yadav as false and misleading.

Addressing a gathering here, Gandhi said: "He (Mulayam) said that he will give free electricity. But for years, there has been no new power plant here. So, where will the electricity come from? Will it come from the skies?"

"22 years have gone by and not even a single power station has been set up, from where will electricity come? Will electrical wires hang from the sky? They think the people of Uttar Pradesh can be fooled by such false promises, they don't care," he said

"In Bundelkhand he (Mulayam Singh Yadav) had said, 'I will convert Bundelkhand into Israel'. And the people of Bundelkhand are sitting and thinking, 'we don't want Israel, we want Bundelkhand, we want water supply in Bundelkhand and you are talking about turning Bundelkhand into Israel'," he added.

Further asserting that the youth of Uttar Pradesh need to change their thinking, Gandhi said: "The youth of Uttar Pradesh need make Uttar Pradesh stand on its feet without wasting any more time. 22 years have already been wasted."

"It is time to remove the BSP, the BJP and the Samajwadi Party. We are just sick and tired of their drama," he added.

The Uttar Pradesh polls are being viewed as an opportunity for major parties to re-establish their foothold in the country's fifth largest and most populous state.

A new 403-member state assembly will be elected in March. The poll results will broadly indicate trends for the 2014 general elections. (ANI)
