London, Feb 11(ANI): Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has called for the introduction of a new rule in the Premier League to avoid tricksters from winning penalties.
He is still furious about Manchester United's second penalty in the 3-3 draw at Stamford Bridge last week.
"There must be a new rule set out. We have them for two-footed tackles, now we have to have them for players who stand out their leg on purpose, clipping the leg of a defender to win a penalty," The Daily Star quoted Villas-Boas, as saying.
Villas-Boas said he has no intentions of blaming the referees, but just wants a new rule to be created to stop the growing pattern of winning penalties by simulation.
"On the same weekend, we had two incidents of that from Adam Johnson and Welbeck. I am not blaming the referee. I am saying there must be a new rule created because it is a pattern now," he said.
When Villas-Boas was asked whether he would encourage or criticize his players if they dive to win penalties, he evaded the questions and instead said: "There are soft penalties, some that should not have been given and some- times you receive them, that is the reality."
"In the end, it is the player who proves his smartness - some are called cheats and divers, others are clever and smart for making the most of the situation," he said. (ANI)
