Pak parliament takes notice of Munter's statement about using its airspace for NATO supplies

Islamabad, Feb 11 (ANI): Pakistan's Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) has taken serious notice of US Ambassador Cameron Munter's statement that they were using Pakistani airspace for NATO supplies, and has sought an explanation from the Foreign and Defence Secretaries about who has given Washington permission.

The committee meeting, held under the Chairmanship of Senator Raza Rabbani, took up several of issues including unabated drone attacks, the US envoy's statement about NATO supplies using Pakistani airspace, the US Congress Committee debate on the Balochistan issue and the non-committal attitude of the principal player in the Memo Gate controversy Mansoor Ijaz to appear before the Committee, The Nation reports.

Informed sources said members of the committee were furious about Munter's statement.

The committee has unanimously decided to summon the defence and foreign secretaries to have the government's viewpoint on the statement.

Meanwhile, the Parliamentary committee on National Security has shelved a probe into Memo Gate after Mansoor Ijaz failed to respond to notices of the Committee to appear before it on February 10. Committee members have authorized their Chairman, Raza Rabbani to keep watching the investigations into the case by the Judicial Commission, and if required, demand the findings of the Commission for review.

The committee has strongly condemned the continued drone strikes inside Pakistani and the debate in the US House of Representatives over the situation in Balochistan, terming it as an open interference in the internal affairs of Pakistan. (ANI)
